ON CAMPUS - Free tutoring

Getting homework help can be easy, just go online! The Independent Learning Centre's (ILC) Ask a Teacher chat room is a free service that provides online tutoring and extra practice after the school bell rings.

Students can visit www.ilc.org and join the Ask a Teacher chat to connect with certified teachers and receive one-on-one tutorial help in real time.

By using text and a virtual whiteboard, students and teachers communicate using diagrams and graphics -- just as they would on a chalkboard in the classroom!

"Ask a Teacher is a valuable service because it offers Ontario students the help they need when they encounter difficulties with their homework or when they need special training in preparation for their EQAO tests. Since September 2003, over one million lines of text have been written between Ontario students and our teachers," said Sarah Irwin, managing director of ILC.

The service is available year round and offers tutoring in all subjects for students in Grade 9 through 12 between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m., Sunday to Thursday. During the EQAO Grade 10 English testing period in October, and the EQAO Grade 9 math test held in January and May, additional math and English teachers are online to help students prepare.

Ask a Teacher is a service of the Independent Learning Centre (ILC), a division of TVOntario. Beer course brewing at Humber College

Today, choosing the right beer isn't as straightforward as it once was, simply because of the range of domestic and imported options that are available.

Humber College's Beers of the World course will introduce participants to the wonderful world of beer. Led by renowned Brewmaster Bill White, the course will feature a number of modules including the different styles of beer, how each is made and the unique characteristics and tastes of each.

The course will also identify, consumption trends, the importance of beer to the marketplace and the legislation that governs the production of beer.

Specific sessions include tasting and trends, lagers, ales, draught and bottles, and the Belgian Beer experience.

You must be 19 or older to take this course.

Date: Wednesday evenings Sept.

15 - Oct. 20 (six weeks)
